Moving to St Ives - Schools and Colleges

St Ives Infant School (Primary ages 4 - 7)
Their aim is for every child to set out confidently on the adventure of learning: curious about the world, excited about their future, positive of their ability and caring of other people.

This is a caring friendly school with possible the best views, over St Ives Bay, of any school anywhere !

St Ia School (Independent Primary - ages 3 to 11)
A small independent school situated in Carbis Bay. St Ia has three full-time members of staff, each responsible for a class, and part-time instructors in swimming and PE. As staff they aim for their children to achieve their highest possible potential academically, physically, emotionally and socially.

Class sizes are small - around ten pupils per class - and the schhool aims to provide a happy well structured, stimulating but clearly encouraging, disciplined and loving environment. Great emphasis is also placed on the importance of courtesy and citizenship.

St Piran's School (Independent Preparatory - ages 3 to 13)
Located at Hayle near St Ives, St Piran’s Preparatory School is housed in attractive and well maintained premises which house over eighty children. It is a friendly, well-ordered community with a positive ethos where pupils make good friendships with each other and relate well to staff.

Pupils are treated with respect and valued equally. They have a clear sense of right and wrong. There is a good sense of community within the school and pupils who enter the school are quickly made to feel welcome. The school places a strong emphasis on good manners and politeness.

Cape Cornwall School (Secondary - ages 11 to 16)
Not actually in St Ives, a few miles away in St Just - but my younger daughter attends the school and loves it.

Cape covers the full curriculum but has an emphasis on the arts - particularly visual and performing arts. The school is currently receiving substantial extra funding to build on this and become a specialist Arts College.

It has a real family and community feel and if you contact them you'll find everybody really friendly and helpful.

St Ives School (Secondary - ages 11 to 16)
A specialist Technology College in the town itself.

The students follow an entitlement curriculum throughout each of the five years. The school regards itself as highly successful when measured against any number of criteria.

There is strong demand for places and so it is worth contacting them well in advance if you are seeking a place.

Humphry Davy School (Secondary - ages 11 to 16)
A Community Music College in Penzance.

"A friendly school in which there is a blend of tradition and innovation with strong links to the community. Our school enjoys a long-standing reputation for caring for our young people as individuals. We provide them with not only a broad and balanced curriculum but an extensive range of clubs and activities which offer them a rich variety of opportunities."

Truro College (Sixth Form and Further Education - ages 16+)
A sixth form college with an excellent reputation for both academic achievement and student care. They also offer a wide range of extra activities in music, sport and drama.

"We believe that what we offer is exceptional. This has been confirmed by the external inspection. Students study in an exciting but hard working environment. We believe we must work with every student to help achieve the best possible results."
